Arlington, Texas fire officials have confirmed that seven people were injured, one of them critically, when ice fell from the roof of Cowboys Stadium this afternoon.
The ice reportedly began melting and falling on the northeast side of the stadium after temperatures dipped to the low 20s, and up to 6 inches of snow accumulated earlier in the day. Week-long winter storms have been pummeling the entire region and causing havoc for this years Super Bowl.
As the video below depicts, huge sheets of ice and snow could be seen sliding off the dome and crashing down 200 feet to the ground as temperatures warmed and the sun reappeared this afternoon.
“It started falling throughout the day, causing minor injuries,” said Lt. Pedro Arevalo, a fire department spokesman.
